General Info

Dapur Penyet @ City Plaza has a way of pulling you in the moment you step inside. Located at 810 Geylang Rd, #01-43/44, Singapore 409286, this restaurant brings the comforting energy of a casual Indonesian-style eatery while staying polished and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where the menu feels familiar, yet every dish arrives with its own personality.

Food is clearly the heart of Dapur Penyet @ City Plaza, and the signature plates show why regulars keep coming back. The Ayam Penyet with Rice and Sambal is a standout, delivering tender fried chicken paired with bold chilli that hits just right without overpowering the dish. The sambal adds depth rather than heat for the sake of heat, which makes every bite satisfying and balanced. Another favorite is the Sate Ayam, grilled to a smoky finish and served with rich peanut sauce that feels comforting and indulgent.

For something a little different, the Dancing Fish brings visual flair and crunch, making it a popular choice for diners who enjoy texture alongside flavor. The Sop Buntut rounds out the experience with its slow-cooked richness, offering a warm, hearty option that feels especially rewarding during lunch hours. Chilli lovers will also appreciate how thoughtfully spice is handled across the menu, enhancing dishes rather than masking their natural taste.

The dining experience itself is relaxed and efficient. With comfortable seating and a layout that works well for both solo meals and group dining, it’s easy to settle in and enjoy. Dine-in guests often mention the steady service flow, while takeaway orders are handled just as smoothly for those on the move. Lunch crowds are common, which says a lot about the restaurant’s consistency and reliability.

Modern convenience blends seamlessly into the experience, with NFC mobile payments making transactions quick and hassle-free. Reviews often highlight how easy it is to drop by, enjoy a satisfying meal, and leave feeling well taken care of. Between the welcoming location, dependable service, and flavorful menu, this restaurant earns its place as a go-to spot for comforting, well-executed dishes in the City Plaza area.

What customers say?

“ The fried chicken (ayam penyet) is not dry and quite crispy. Portion is sufficient too. Love the version with fresh green chilli sauce. You can ask for more sauce if needed. It’s an indoor air conditioned restaurant, and staff is friendly. Plenty if seats for big groups too. Halal certified. Prices start from $7.90 nett for a main dish. Beware of the red sambal chilli though, it’s really spicy! Felt that the side dish of tofu and tempe can be cheaper. ”

“ Located on the ground floor of City Plaza. Plentiful parking available in the building or if you are lucky, there’re public lots along the road at the back of the building. Decided to get it a try after hearing recommendations from a friend. Ordered the Sup Buntut and wasn’t disappointed at all! The meat is not fall off the bone but still tender enough to be pulled apart easily with utensils. I felt this is just the nice texture for a positive mouth sensation. Taste wise is pretty close to the best that I have tried before in Jakarta. Do ask for sambal and calamansi to mix into the soup for a spicy and tangy kick. Pricing wise, is a little on the high side but ingredients are fresh and portioning acceptable. Orders are made and collected at the counter from friendly staff and place is kept pretty clean, which makes it a pleasant place to have a quick meal. Witnessed pretty much an Indonesian clientele when there, must say that boils down to the good and authentic food. Will be back to try the goreng goreng stuff next time. ”

“ This is a ayam penyet store that is worth trying out. It is located in city plaza, with a cozy interior. During lunch time, there would be seats available as it is a quiet mall. The ayam penyat was great and i like the crackers. The chilli was fragrance but be warned that it is super spicy. If you prefer other type of chilli, they also offers 4 other type of chilli. If you dont like chilli, there are non spicy options as well. Other than chicken, i also like their duck and promfet. Do try them out. ”

“ Have been coming to this restaurant since more than 10yrs ago, the standard to be honest stays the same all this while. Fresh ingredients with good portion, my whole family like this place even my older parents as the meat and rice is soft and easy to bite even for them. Oxtail soup and gado gado is one of my favourite, the soup and oxtail meat portion is generous and the soup is very flavourful, very good to go with rice or just drink it on its own especially on a cold weather day. Gado gado peanut sauce doesn't taste artificial and is not those chunky kind which is easy to eat in bite sizes. Kangkung belacan is normal though. ”

“ Decently good ayam bakar but others were a little disappointing Trying for the first time. Ordered the ayam bakar set. And I must say that I really enjoyed the ayam bakar itself. The chicken is not dry, and has a good enough bakar to it. The grilled and charred parts were tasty, and when mixed with the sweet black sauce, gave a very satisfying chew and feel to it. Unfortunately the chicken could do with better companions. The rice though generous, were a little hard for me. The fried tauhu, boiled cabbage, were mediocre. The taufu could be crispier on the outside, while the cabbage, in my opinion is over cooked. The sambal packs a punch but I would prefer it to be slightly sweeter. The keropok was ok. Could be crunchier. And there were quite some parts which were just hard. Soup was decent. Not overly salty or oily. Service is rather fast and ambience is clean and well lit. Not too bright or dim. However the hard walls result in reverberations, so it can be quite noisy. I'll return just for the ayam bakar and try the gado gado. ”
